Nearly half of all respondents to a recent survey say they
still have trips planned for the period between June and December 2020, though
they did not specify intent to ultimately take those trips.
Dollar Flight Club, a subscription service that alerts users
of cheap domestic and international flights, conducted the online survey April
5. The company says it sent the questions to its one million members and 20,000
responded, with 93% of those respondents based in the U.S.
About a third of respondents say they never had a trip
booked for the second half of this year, and about 20% say they had a trip
scheduled but have cancelled it and either gotten a refund or a voucher for
future use. Just more than 7% chose a response of “other.”

When asked if they feel comfortable traveling internationally
over the next six months if restrictions are lifted, 61% say yes, they feel
comfortable doing that, while 39% say no. And regarding travel this summer or
over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, nearly 41% say they only feel comfortable
traveling domestically, with Hawaii the top destination.
In a separate survey conducted by
advertising agency BVK of 510 U.S. travelers, about half of respondents (52%)
say they only want to see travel advertising that is addressing the advertiser’s
response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly
as many - 48% - says it is insensitive for travel companies and destinations to
advertise right now.
And yet, about 42% say they still like
to see advertising for vacation destinations.
