More than half of travellers would like a mobile app that covers every aspect of their transportation needs, a survey of consumers has found.
The Priceline Group asked American travellers about their desires for travel services in a mobile world, with 54% saying they wanted a single, integrated application that covers planning, booking and ticketing across all forms of travel.
The study also found that four out of ten travellers wanted a virtual assistant to help with their travel selections by offering recommendations.
In what could be seen as a rather conservative estimate, just 61% of Americans believe printing out paper copies of their travel documents will be a thing of the past in 10 years' time.
But the consumer obsession and reliance on mobile devices is taking on a new front, as 59% of those in the survey said they would reconsider selecting a destination if it had a lack of mobile access or wifi connections.
But, sadly, this connected nature is also driving away one of the aspects of travel that should still be embraced: human interaction.
Precisely half of those questioned in the survey said they expected things such as asking a stranger for directions would be a thing of the past within a decade, because of a reliance on technology.
Still, so-called Millennials are those that inevitably appear to be embracing technology more than any other consumer type.
Almost a half of that subset in the survey said they would use a virtual reality headset to preview a travel destination.
And, finally, mirroring other studies, nearly nine out of ten said mobile technology will book activities or excursions during a trip, as opposed to in advance. The figure falls to 72% for all age ranges.
