Amadeus is looking to achieve 100% cloud infrastructure as it begins to move applications to remote digital hosting.
The distribution company is hoping for efficiency and speed gains following the transfer of its shopping application, Master Pricer, to Google Cloud.
It is also moving other shopping applications to the public cloud and retiring previously employed mainframes.
Amadeus believes factors such as the growing industry and increasing drive for personalization need “a paradigm shift in the systems that keep the industry running.”
In a statement, it adds that the decommissioning of the mainframes and the fact that it is now fully running on open systems enables it to boost innovation for customers and develop new products more quickly.
Dietmar Fauser, senior vice president for technology platforms and engineering at Amadeus, says: “Our work ultimately gears us to innovate more quickly and thoroughly in areas such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and machine learning.”

The news was announced during the Amadeus T3CH event in Madrid this week, where Expedia Group also shared thoughts
on its cloud journey.
Subbu Allamaraju, vice president of technology for the company, provided advice on its cloud migration including to "pick big boulders early on."
He says the approach of starting with harder problems had helped the company make mistakes and figure out what works well.
He also believes in having a "point of view on what it means to be in the cloud" because of the hype surrounding it, which he adds is "two to three years ahead of the reality."
"It helps you to decide where to invest and how to optimize resources."
