Expedia Group is shutting down Lastminute.com.au, an online travel agency focused on discounted, last-minute travel based in Australia.
The site will close on June 2, according to the company’s website. Existing bookings won’t be impacted, and bookings remain open until May 15 for travel within next nine months. After May 15, bookings can only be made for travel completed by Nov. 1. Starting in June, activity will be redirected to Expedia.
“We regularly review our products, solutions and portfolio of brands to continue improving our travelers' experiences,” an Expedia Group Spokesperson said. “We believe that our travelers will receive the best experience on Expedia, and we are working directly with them to ensure this is a seamless transition.”
Lastminute.com.au launched in 2000 through a partnership between travel.com.au and lastminute.com, according to Yahoo Finance. Seven years later, travel.au.com took full control and then, in 2008, it was acquired by Wotif. In 2014, Expedia acquired Wotif for $703 million.
Other booking sites with eleventh-hour options or deals in Australia include Wotif, Jetstar, Kayak and TripADeal.
