Travel social network WAYN is bringing in flight search engine Momondo at the expense of rival Kayak as it looks to concentrate on destination-based products.
The switch ("slowly migrating") is said to mirror WAYN's new focus on providing tour and activity ideas for members as they collaborate with one another to plan trips.
Providing a new flight search - better product fit through Momondo, says co-founder Jerome Touze - is part of a series of initiatives for the WAYN system around making its easier to find things to do in destinations.
Touze says the network focuses on "future intent", meaning that the level of data it captures is valuable to DMOs and travel organisations.
One of the areas Touze says the company is keen on moving into is around local offers (in discussions with Groupon, he says) as well as hopefully finding a provider that can aggregate destination tours and activities at a global level, an area currently not available on the web, he says.
The new vision is "paying off", Touze claims, with traffic climbing steadily since the turn of the year and Lonely Planet one of the sites it hopes to overtake shortly.
Touze says:

"I think Groupon is a great match. We provide the extra level of targeting - not many companies have access to what people want to do, what their dreams are and where they want to go. This level of information combined with a company that has worldwide offers at local level is extremely exciting."
The company saw revenues grow by 40% year on year in 2010 (no other financials made available) and is claiming it will see 110% growth by the end of 2011.
