Ryanair has launched new tools on its website and mobile app that it says will prevent users from being over-charged by online travel agencies.
The budget carrier is enabling users to check the price they have paid via an online travel agency versus how much the OTA has paid to Ryanair.
It means passengers will be able to see OTA’s, that are not authorized to sell Ryanair flights, have added a mark-up.
In addition, the carrier is adding a “Verified Seal” check mark to its website and mobile app to demonstrate to users that they are booking direct with Ryanair.
Dara Brady, director of marketing at Ryanair, says: “These two new features will help customers avoid the pitfalls of booking with online travel agents, who may overcharge, provide incorrect customers information and prevent Ryanair from dealing directly with the passenger.”
The Irish carrier has engaged in numerous legal proceedings in the past to prevent OTAs from screen-scraping its prices.
In February, Ryanair claimed Lastminute.com had faked customer details and called on the Competition & Markets Authority to step in.
