Uber has partnered with India-based online travel agency Ixigo to
launch train ticket booking on the Uber app.
The service enables travelers in India to book train tickets as well as arrange rides to their departure station as well as onwards from their
destination. Uber already has a presence at a number of large railway stations
in the country including Ahmedabad, Secunderabad and Howrah.
The partnership builds on Uber’s existing intercity travel service
in India including cab rentals and long-distance buses.
“Train journeys are an integral part of how India travels.
For millions of people, the journey starts well before they board the train and
continues long after they arrive at their destination,” said Arnab Kumar, director,
business development, Uber India and South Asia. “With train ticket booking on
the Uber app, riders can now book their train tickets, check their PNR status
and seamlessly connect to and from the railway station, all within a single
app.”
Ixigo’s co-CEOs Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar said the
company has continued to invest to create a seamless post-booking experience and
the partnership extends the experience beyond the train.
Uber announced the expansion of Uber Bike to a further 100 cities in India recently bringing its network to 225 cities.
