Tensions between Google and online travel companies are ongoing although some are faring between better when it comes to their partnerships.
Google's perspective is that it continues to be about serving content that is relevant to the audience which makes it a good marketplace and distribution partner.
During an executive interview at the Phocuswright Conference, Google vice president, product management, Richard Holden talks about "Book On Google" being about driving conversion rate and a better consumer experience.
He adds that it has been misunderstood and is more about facilitated booking with consumers still booking with the partner.
He also discussed the growth of voice saying it was seeing great engagement. Holden shared that voice represents a 20% (and growing) share of Google’s mobile traffic, which is 50%.
He also says that 500 million devices are now Google Assistant enabled and hotel booking is coming this month with partners including Choice and Booking Holdings.
