Artificial intelligence-powered travel planning is advancing quickly, but turning a conversation with an AI assistant into a confirmed booking requires more than intelligent recommendations. Travel companies also need accurate, real-time inventory, reliable pricing, secure payments and a way to verify that transactions are authorized.
Earlier this year, PayPal, Sabre and Mindtrip introduced an end-to-end agentic booking experience designed to bring those capabilities together. Travelers can plan a trip through Mindtrip's conversational AI assistant, access live shopping and booking capabilities through Sabre and complete transactions using PayPal, all without leaving the conversation.
But making agentic commerce work at scale introduces new challenges, from managing the potentially enormous volume of AI-driven searches to protecting supplier systems and establishing trust when agents act on travelers' behalf.
In this discussion with Phocuswright's Mitra Sorrells, Nixon Dinh, director of product for agentic commerce at PayPal, and Brad Johnson, vice president of product management at Sabre, share lessons from the collaboration, explain what travel companies should prioritize as they prepare for agentic commerce and discuss where the technology is heading next.
