Lonely Planet has partnered with Intrepid Travel to unveil sustainable tours under the name Lonely Planet Experiences.
According to a statement, 200-day tours are available at launch, as are more than 130 multi-day experiences such as walking, cycling and festivals.
The aim is for the tours to have a low impact on the environment by using local transportation, supporting local businesses and being carbon neutral in line with Intrepid’s other trips.
Luis Cabrera, CEO of Lonely Planet, describes the launch as an “exciting innovation and evolution for the brand.”
Cabrera took the reins at Lonely Planet about a year ago, saying the company wanted to provide not only the best content, but also the “best place for that content to be accessed and experienced.”
Days later, the company acquired Arrival Guides as part of its B2B strategy.
In April of last year, the guidebook publisher announced its acquisition of TRILL Travel, a marketplace that turns Instagram posts into bookable experiences using artificial intelligence.
At the time, Lonely Planet said it would use TRILL’s technology to create bookable experiences from its guidebook content.
