Hopper crunches data - lots of it. So much of it that it has determined when, precisely, is the best day and time to "buy and fly".
According to Patrick Surry, Hopper's chief data scientist, the company is basing the idea of Travel Deal Tuesday on the historical price data that it's accumulated over several years.
Claiming that it's analyzed "trillions" of travel prices, Surry revealed that booking for flights increase significantly on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
And there's more: in 2015, fare sale activity spiked by more than six times its usual pace on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and in 2016, fare sale activity spiked by double the normal fare sale activity.

"The airlines offer major discounts because travel demand tends to die down following Thanksgiving," he says.
"Most travelers have already booked their holiday airfare, but haven't started planning their winter getaways yet."
Naturally, Hopper's proposed solution is its proprietary Hopper Flex Watch, wherein they claim that travelers will save more than 40% on their usual fare prices on Travel Deal Tuesday.
In addition, Hopper also claims to have the booking times down to a proverbial science: fare sales begin peaking at 6:30 in the morning, and end around 9:30 in the morning, but it anticipates that additional sales will be available throughout the day.
Finally, Surry claims that Hopper is able to predict future fare sales with 95% accuracy, and that users can set up fare alerts for their preferred cities within the Hopper Flex Watch.
