Here's an interesting study from Escape the City on the companies people would most like to join if they took the plunge and left their existing careers.
Unsurprisingly Escape the City was set up a few years ago to address career dissatisfaction, help people find something more meaningful and rewarding and encourage people to create startups.
The study of 1,000 of its members doesn't go into specifics on why they want to join Airbnb, Uber and Virgin Galactic - the top three companies as per the list below.
But, it does tell us that travel and tourism is the sector people would most like to join were they to turn their backs on the corporate world.
The company also talks about the three trends that are driving people towards what it calls the 21st Century Career:
- Tech and communications advances meaning more freedom to work how and where we want
- Impact of the recession on big organisations and trust in them from employees
- Career aspirations and the work-life balance
The study makes for a decent read and emphasizes how a big chunk of disgruntled city employees (50%) would like to set up their own companies.
The research also shows 29% want to join an organisation more in tune with their own values while 14% want time off to travel.
Either way - it means opportunities for travel companies to attract skills from different sectors as well as perhaps market services to this group.
Survey participants are predominantly from the UK and mainland Europe and most have been working for between two and 10 years. In addition, about 60% are considering changing jobs in the next six months. The full report can be downloaded here.
