Skyscanner has launched an app in ChatGPT, allowing travelers to search for flights with OpenAI’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot.
Travelers can use natural language to have the app surface live results and then compare flight options and prices. Users can also send a message to adjust dates or airports.
“It’s the Skyscanner logic and prices people trust, wrapped into a more intuitive, conversational flow,” Skyscanner said.
The app is available on ChatGPT in the U.K. and the U.S. for global flight options. Just like on Skyscanner's website, users will be redirected for booking.
“We’ve been at the forefront of cutting-edge flight search, ensuring that travelers have all the right tools to reduce friction and give them more confidence in finding the right flight for them,” said Piero Sierra, chief AI officer of Skyscanner.
The company joins a growing list of travel players launching apps in ChatGPT. OpenAI first announced it would host apps in the fall, partnering with Expedia and Booking.com. During an earnings call last week, Hyatt revealed that it also launched an app in ChatGPT, and last month, Accor announced it launched an ALL Accor app within the conversational AI chatbot. MakeMyTrip, TourRadar, Uber, Viator and other travel brands also have apps within ChatGPT.
While cars and hotels were not mentioned as part of its app launch, Skyscanner said AI is powering hotel and car hire chatbots on its own platform. The company also worked with ChatGPT in 2023 on a different AI-powered search tool.
Skyscanner, which named Sierra chief AI officer in September, is focused on implementing AI to improve the traveler search experience on its platform.
“We’ll continue evolving travel search beyond form-fills toward dynamic, answer-led experiences,” Sierra said. “We’ll scale natural language search with explainability and expand agentic scenarios only where trust and economics work. Success in AI will be defined by better decisions and earned traveler trust.”
