Latin America is dealing with some macroeconomic challenges
right now, but the opportunities for growth in the travel industry remain large
– particularly for local players that understand the nuances of individual
countries and can tailor offers, pricing and payments to serve those markets.
That message came from Damian Scokin, CEO of the region’s
largest online travel agency – Argentina-based Despegar – during an interview
with Phocuswright analyst Carolina Sass de Hero at the Phocuswright Conference
last week.
Scokin (we also interview him earlier this year for our In The Big Chair series) shares some of the company’s plans for the coming
year, including a loyalty program launching first in Brazil in the coming weeks, investments in Despegar’s travel packaging products, more payment options and
developments in its partnership with Ctrip.
He also details the company's interest in the sectors of private accommodation and tours and activities.
