Travel search Wanderu has landed a distribution deal with Amtrak, the largest US long-distance rail operator.
Previously Hipmunk was the only online travel company offering Amtrak via metasearch.
As of 29 April, more than 60 station stop in 14 states are bookable through Wanderu’s city-to-city search engine.
The rest of Amtrak’s railroad network, such as its Acela high-speed service in the American Northeast, will be rolled out over several months, said CEO Polina Raygorodskaya in an interview.
The Boston-based company has already signed distribution deals with Greyhound, Megabus, and Boltbus. Now that it has Amtrak, it claims to cover 90% of the US that is reachable by ground transport.
Wanderu has raised $8.1 million in investment rounds.
It recently launched an iPhone mobile app. An Android app is in beta testing.
Wanderu was the top travel app and one of a handful of startups to be finalists in Richard Branson's entrepreneurship contest earlier this year.
