Expedia Group is eliminating an unknown number of jobs while hiring for new roles, the company confirmed in an emailed statement to PhocusWire.
“We are eliminating roles as well as opening some new roles as we remain disciplined about assessing the skills we need for the future,” an Expedia spokesperson said.
As of Tuesday, Expedia Group had 268 openings across 20 countries and is hiring in 19 offices.
“We are also simplifying our structure and reducing organizational layers to move faster and with more accountability,” the spokesperson said. “These are not easy decisions, and we are grateful for the contributions of our colleagues who are impacted.”
Expedia Group did not share which divisions of the company will be impacted.
The company also conducted layoffs a little less than a year ago, cutting an unknown number of employees.
At the time, an Expedia Group spokesperson said that the company is required to continually adapt to the industry and travelers’ evolving needs, requiring “difficult but necessary” decisions.
Expedia Group also announced up to 1,500 reductions in February 2024, shortly after the company shared that then-CEO Peter Kern would be stepping down.
In a 10-K filed in February for the fiscal year end of 2024, Expedia Group said it had 16,500 employees spanning nearly 50 countries around the world. In the 10-K filed in February 2024, Expedia Group reported 17,100 employees at year-end 2023.
