SITA is enabling airlines to offer boarding via smartwatch using an API developed within its SITA Lab arm.
Boarding passes can be accessed via Android Wear powered watches and a swipe of the device reveals a barcode enabling travellers to get through checkpoints.
The technology also reminds passengers of their flight details.
SITA says the boarding pass is fully compliant with international regulations and therefore can be used at airports worldwide.
The boarding pass API can be accessed via SITA's developer area within its website and a number of airlines including JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic are already using the technology for boarding passes on mobile.
SITA chief technology officer Jim Peters says that while smartwatches haven't taken off yet, predictions for their use are healthy.

"The SmartWatch Group reports that 40 companies launched smartwatches in 2013 and it predicts these devices will become indispensable in the years to come. "
Air Berlin announced that it was enabling boarding via Pebble smartwatch back in April while Virgin Atlantic completed a trial using Google Glass and the Sony Smartwatch in February.
Earlier this week Japan Airlines unveiled a trial using smartwatches and iBeacons to improve staff efficiency as well as the ground experience for passengers.
