More travel companies testing the virtual reality waterNews / Technology | OnlineBy Linda Fox | May 23, 2016Share This article was originally published on A couple of virtual reality projects in travel caught our eye in recent weeks for nothing more than serving as nice examples of how the technology is progressing.Virtual reality specialist YouVisit recently worked with Rock the Park to create a virtual reality experience for Yosemite National Park. The hope is that the clip will get people to rediscover the park and plan another visit.Tourism Australia has also been working on an immersive content campaign through USA Today's content house GET Creative. A series of VR clips highlight wildlife and various destinations across the country.No one yet knows how big VR might be in general or in travel more specifically.There have been some interesting pieces in the technology press highlighting why VR will be big as well as the barriers to adoption.We have also seen some very positive predictions already such as a device in every home within 10 years but that assumes more attractive pricing and that broadband will also have reached all those homes by then.Enter big companies with research and development budgets and it all starts to get very interesting.Last week's announcement from Google regarding its Daydream service for mobile VR on Android devices is pushing some to predict it will drive mass adoption.A note from a Piper Jaffray analyst, as reported in investment publication Barron's, has caused some excitement for saying Daydream will bring VR to the masses.We wait and watch.Related reading:Getting the hang of virtual realityVirtual reality primed to become a tourism marketing reality
