Dohop, the Reykjavik-based metasearch provider, is reporting its "best first quarter" since it began, and has also launched a new site design. It recently accepted the 2016 Icelandic Innovation Award.
The company, which has 30 employees, says it had a 31% increase in visits, and a 55% increase in revenue, year-over-year, for first-quarter 2016.
DoHop has introduced a redesigned site that includes new functionality: DoHop now offers suggestions underneath the search form, such as for cheap flights for an upcoming weekend, to help travelers who are still flexible and not settled on their itinerary.
Founded in 2005, the company has also been awarded the 2016 Icelandic Innovation award by The Icelandic Innovation Center, The Icelandic Center for Research, Promote Iceland and NSA Ventures. The statue for the award has a design that's something to be cocky about.
That comes off of last year's naming as the best app/website for transportation, as chosen by readers of USA Today and 10Best.
In recent years, the company has broadened its revenue with business-to-business services for airlines and airports. Last autumn it scored a major deal it landed a contract to power flights on Russia’s biggest search engine, Yandex, which commands about 60% of all search engine traffic.
DoHop's redesign and new logo might be able to capitalize on the soft brand power of Iceland as a source of design and music innovation. The country, which has about 300,000 residents, expects tourism numbers to continue to grow and reach 2 million a year by 2017.
One of Iceland's other travel stars these days is Bókun, a B2B platform that's growing quickly.
