The new Air France video fits nicely along the trend of smart, engaging and refreshingly different safety videos by airlines.
However, this one is a bit more risqué in pure French style, offering up a set of waifishly thin French models as the main characters in the airline's latest safety video.
Amazingly, not one of the major publications covering the video have been disturbed by the beauty standards or general appearance of these model types (a message from Air France confirms these are paid models).
Yahoo suggests that these lovely models are representative of actual employees, saying "Air France Flight Attendants Make Flying Look Fabulous" and USA Today calls it "très chic,"especially since the words "glamour" and "air travel" have long since gone their separate ways.
Anyhow, fashion and body image are not really our purview here but it is interesting to note yet again how safety videos have become such vessels for brand messaging. Air France is chic, light-hearted and beautiful, and while brands certainly don't always reflect reality, the aspirational flag has been planted.
Just taking a look at the flight attendants featured on the media image page for Air France suggests that perhaps the model look is indeed the new standard for hiring anyhow. So chic away!
