Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered autonomous vehicle company Wayve has acquired German software development company Quality Match. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Quality Match, founded in 2019, specializes in analyzing data that trains AI models for things like advanced assisted and automated driving. According to Wayve, the acquisition highlights its “continued investment in data accuracy as a cornerstone of safe and scalable autonomous driving.”
Quality Match’s team of 20 Germany-based specialists will join Wayve, and Quality Match CEO Daniel Kondermann will join as director of data. Wayve said the acquisition bolsters its presence in Germany, as it opened its Testing and Development Hub near Stuttgart earlier this year.
“Bringing Quality Match into Wayve marks a strategic step forward in our commitment to deliver safe and trustworthy AI,” said Wayve co-founder and CEO Alex Kendall.
“Daniel and his team have built exceptional expertise in data quality and understanding for AI, which will strengthen the robustness, interpretability and performance of our systems.”
Last May, Wayve raised $1.05 billion in its Series C funding round, with plans to use the capital to reimagine autonomous through “embodied intelligence.” This model, also referred to as “embodied AI,” focuses on building vehicles that have a “robot brain,” enabling them to respond and react to a real-world environment.
