Decentralized identity company Indicio has announced its “Indicio Proven AI for Digital Travel” technology will allow AI agents to authenticate traveler identities via digital passports.
With the feature, AI agents, chatbots and copilots can now ask travelers for these credentials in a chat and “cryptographically” verify identifying information before proceeding with a request. The digital passports, which Indicio calls Digital Travel Credentials (DTC), are stored in travelers' digital wallets.
“This is transformational for the practical use and success of AI in travel,” said Indicio CEO Heather Dahl.
“It allows travelers to consent to share their personal data, it seamlessly feeds AI agents and chatbots with the verified data needed for effective task performance and it turns chat into a truly frictionless operational resource that’s also maximally compliant with data protection law.”
Indicio pointed out that the software overseeing the interactions also verifies the chatbot to ensure that it actually belongs to the airline or travel company, “creating trust in both directions.” Additionally, travelers can present multiple credentials to an AI agent, including loyalty credentials.
Travelers’ DTC through Indicio acts as a “government-grade” form of identification, combining authenticated biometrics and documents to adhere to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s requirements. Once validated, the digital identity is sent to the traveler’s digital wallet.
Indicio, a PhocusWire Hot 25 Travel Startup for 2026, develops digital identity verification solutions for airlines, airports and border agencies.
