With an obvious effort to strengthen its mobile channel, Yahoo has acquired Wander's visual diary mobile app service - Days.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, however, TechCrunch reports the deal at over $10 million.
Wander, a New York-based company that was projected as a travel startup, created enormous buzz initially with its unconventional marketing efforts that gained a lot of media attention, and finally pivoted to launch a mobile-only picture-based daily diary service.
A user of Days app (available only on Apple Store) can maintain a photo-log of their entire day, and finally publish the day's photo-log at one shot (rather than posting photos real-time) for their friends to look at.
In the travel industry context, Days' relevance comes in when users maintain a daily log of their trip, and travel service providers offer their trip itinerary in a photo-log style. In this application, it could be a type of photo album or essay about a place.
The entire Days team will join Yahoo's NYC office, and they will be working with the Mobile and Emerging Products group. Days also confirmed in its blog that the app will continue to exist standalone.
In July 2013, Yahoo acquired US-based Qwiki, an iPhone app that creates story-telling videos by using pictures and videos in a user’s mobile.
Though Qwiki and Days are solving entirely different purpose, the underlying principle behind both apps are - to share your experiences.
Are apps like Qwiki and Days Yahoo's answer for Facebook's Instagram? What do you think?
