UK travelers who have never cruised before are inclined to embark on one soon, according to a recent survey of 2,000 adults.
The survey, from Amadeus, found that technology continues to grow in importance to the cruiser.
62% of respondents expect "super fast" wifi on-board the ship and 30% actually require 24/7 technology support throughout the journey. This growing appetite for ship-board technology is a vital piece of the puzzle for all those marketing cruises to travelers.
Among those surveyed, 42% of adults who holiday abroad yet have never cruised would be interested in taking one.
A further 30% would consider changing from an all-inclusive land-based package to a similar package at sea — as long as the price and value of the package remain identical.
The push behind the report was to show how travel agents in the UK could build interest among travelers, especially those without any previous experience cruising.
The total cruise market includes 1.7 million passengers. More travelers would be willing to consider a cruise if the following characteristics are met:
In order to sell cruises more effectively, travel agents should consider how the respondents felt about what they wanted from a cruise travel agent. Accuracy, empathy and extensive knowledge all factored into the travelers' expectations.
Other interesting findings include:
- A growing interest in cruising by younger travelers. 52% of those aged 25-34 would want to take a cruise in the future
- 7% of respondents have booked a cruise with plans to travel within 12 months
- A large minority, 32%, agree that the cruise industry doesn't appear "young, fresh and appealing"
