Sojern's latest global analysis of travel trends, based on "more than a billion traveler intent data points", includes an update on next month's Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The update is based on the increase in searches for Rio in the second quarter of this year compared with the first three months.
Three countries recorded a triple-digit quarter-on-quarter hike, with searches from Brazil up by 105%, suggesting that as the Olympics get closer the interest from local people increases, although "local" in the context of the world's fifth largest country might be the wrong term.
Nonetheless, it is a good sign for an event which has seen its share of controversy and negative coverage, domestically and internationally.
The UK and Japan show increases of 110% and 130% respectively, perhaps reflecting their status as the previous and following host countries.
There are modest increases from the US (18%) and Canada (35%).
Sojern says that "seeing which origin markets aren’t shying away from the Olympics should influence who you target for your own campaigns".
