It was a never a "bubble", as some like to call it, but the same-day travel booking sector certainly had started feeling like the the online trip planning market.
Led, most would (probably begrudgingly) admit, by HotelTonight in the US following its launch and multiple capital raises, same-day booking of hotels via mobile devices was seen as a new opportunity in the travel sector.
Given that the idea behind the model was reasonably simple (a mobile service which gives users late deals on local hotels), it would make sense that it would give birth to countless other businesses, such as Hot Hotels and HotelQuickly.
One such brand was IN2NITE, a Singapore-based hotel booking service which was backed by IDG Ventures and a number of other regional investors.
Founded in 2013, IN2NITE did the by-then usual strategy of selling unsold hotel rooms via apps on iOS, Android and Blackberry devices, in the key Asian cities of Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as having a presence in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Things appeared to be going well, with CEO Arne Dettki (who somewhat oddly still had a role as a general partner at Lexagon Capital Partners) saying just 12 months ago how pleased he was to welcome IDG's investment in the company.
IDG had led a financing round for IN2NITE of $2.8 million.
Some might say the warning signs that the market was reaching maturity were evident throughout 2014.
HotelTonight started offering late mobile booking for hostels in the first quarter of last year and then, perhaps inevitably, the same-day model was thrown away entirely and it started offering deals on properties for seven days out from arrival.
In addition, many observers noted that the marketplace was never going to both sustain lots of players essentially doing the same thing (with variations on the participating properties) and scale beyond simply adding more cities to a network.
Still, less than a year on from trousering almost $3 million, IN2NITE appears to be calling it a day.
In an email to members on the day after the service was curtailed, IN2NITE's management team wrote:
The site is already "dark".
Dettki says via email that the company will no long continue with the consumer-facing service.

"We will soon launch our new offering as a provider of mobile booking solutions for travel agencies and hotels worldwide. Our state-of-the-art, leading edge platform is certainly unique in the industry."
