App developers pay keen attention to this: the revenue gap between iOS and Android ecosystems has grown even larger, says the latest App Annie report.
Despite Android's global install dominance, iOS device owners are much more likely to spend money on mobile.
In fact, as of the first quarter of this year, Apple's App Store revenue worldwide was nearly 70% more than that of Google Play. That's a 60% increase from only two quarters prior!
As of Q1 2015, iOS App Store worldwide revenue was about 70% higher than on Google Play, up from 60% in Q3 2014.
Yet, Android users are much more active on the Google Play store, downloading far more apps than their iOS counterparts.
This gap has been fueled by the rise of China and Mexico on the iOS platform, proving the platform's inherent purchasability.
For the first time since App Annie began tracking installs by country back in 2010, China has surpassed the US. in quarterly iOS installs.
Mexico is also jumping up the rankings on Google Play, surpassing South Korea to take the fifth spot on the most downloads list.
On iOS, the usual suspects sit atop the highest revenue categories: Games, Social Networking, Music, Education, and Entertainment.
For Chinese mobile users, the most popular categories are Games and Photo/Video.
Travel doesn't quite factor in there, so perhaps an enterprising travel brands can make a game about posting photos and videos of recent trips and bring it all together.
