KLM and Airbnb, both clever operators when it comes to social media and PR (especially the former), have collaborated.
It what can only be described as nothing more than a promo stunt, but a fun one, the pair have created their own brand of the sharing economy in the sky (well, on the ground).
KLM is retiring its last MD-11 aircraft, so before it heads off to a new owner the carrier decided to work with Airbnb to commemorate the event and show off their quirkier sides.
The aircraft has been given a small makeover to turn it into an apartment, which will be available for one night later this month for the winner of a competition.
The airline says:

"The homely aircraft will have all the creature comforts. There’s a bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a living room with a flat-screen TV and cosy couches.
"But first, all the seats need to be removed so that wooden floors can be laid."
The up-sides?
The description on Airbnb says the property has 8+ bathrooms and includes a kitchen area, internet, TV, breakfast and smoke detector.
Sadly, the house rules state that the visitors cannot use the inflatable emergency slide and it might be rather noisy as the aircraft will be situated by the side of the runway.
And, of course, in a play on Airbnb's existing mantra:

"Please treat our plane like you treat your own plane."
