HolidayPirates is another of the outliers in the world of online travel in Europe that probably doesn't get the attention that it deserves.
Similar to Secret Escapes, the Germany-based company has managed to establish a huge presence in the region with a firm set of goals.
These include a singular strategy to provide deals to users with links to deals it finds on the web and then shares to its millions of followers on social media.
And now it's targeting the U.S. market and shifting towards providing bookings.
Unlike Secret Escapes (check this interview from Phocuswright Europe 2018), HolidayPirates has not raised any money and never spends any marketing dollars on customer acquisition via Google.
The company's CEO, David Armstrong, came on-board in 2014 after a career in online travel agencies and IATA.
He joined Phocuswright analyst Alice Jong at our sister brand's event in Amsterdam earlier this month to explain how the company has managed to get a strong presence in the ecosystem with an unusual strategy.
Here is the full interview from the event.
