After years in the doldrums (well, nobody really caring), virtual reality could very well be The Thing in 2016.
Various devices (from the expensive to the simple Google Cardboard) have come on the market that will now allow users to "experience" a destination, activity or product using 360-degree filmed at the location.
Seizing on what it hopes will be a trend, Matoke Tours in Uganda claims to be launching the first "virtual reality brochure" for a safari this week.
Prospective safari-goers will be asked to install the tour operator's app on their Android devices (Apple to come in February, apparently), connect to their VR viewer, and then wander about the jungle with gorillas and other animals.
Wim Kok, director of Matoke Tours, says:

"This app enables us to convey the intensity and emotion of the travel experience before the journey has even started. Travellers are then better able to decide which excursions they want to book."
The plan is to make a ten-day trip available on the VR platform over the course of 2016.
