Travel management company TripActions will provide its
customers data on the emissions output of their travel programs, both at a
company-wide and individual traveler level.
TripActions says the new offering is based on customer input
and also a September survey of 1,200 travelers that found 80% are “very or
somewhat concerned about the impact of business travel on the environment” and
61% say it is important for their employer to offset their business travel.
In Europe, respondents ranked minimizing environmental
impact as the single most important quality of a business travel booking
service.

“Over the last couple of months, it became clear that the environmental
impact of business travel is a critical topic to address,” says Anique
Drumright, TripActions vice president of product.
“Everything that’s going on about the environment is all
over the news, we are hearing it from our customers that they want the
opportunity to partake and we are responding to that need.”
Customers that opt in to the service will receive a monthly
report with company-wide data on all air and rail mileage and the associated
carbon impact. The company can then decide whether – and how – to offset those
emissions.
In the near future, TripActions will enable traveler-level
features that allow individual employees to see their carbon footprint data and
give them the choice to apply their TripActions rewards to purchase carbon
offsets.
