Netcompany has acquired Copenhagen Airports’ stake in Smarter Airports, taking full ownership of the company behind airport operations platform AIRHART.
Smarter Airports was founded in 2020 as a joint venture between Netcompany and Copenhagen Airports. The company developed AIRHART to bring together airport data and operational processes in support of real-time coordination, predictive decision-making and more flexible operations.
The platform has since expanded beyond initial launch site Copenhagen Airport to larger international deployments, including London's Heathrow Airport and Munich Airport. Those implementations have given Netcompany a stronger base to grow the business beyond its original home market.
At Heathrow, AIRHART is set to support core operational systems including flight data, airport coordination and operations planning.
Netcompany said full ownership will allow it to focus on the next stage of growth for Smarter Airports as it expands AIRHART commercially.
“Copenhagen Airports has been pivotal to the success of Smarter Airports and the development of AIRHART, and I am glad that our strong partnership continues in a new constellation,” said André Rogaczewski, CEO and co-founder of Netcompany.
“The agreements with Munich and Heathrow have accelerated global demand for AIRHART, and full Netcompany ownership will ensure a dedicated focus on the commercial scaling of Smarter Airports into yet another engine of growth for Netcompany’s international expansion,” he said.
Christian Poulsen, CEO of Copenhagen Airports, said the ownership change would allow Smarter Airports to focus on scaling while Copenhagen Airports concentrates on its core business.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished together with Netcompany,” Poulsen said. “Smarter Airports is now ready for commercial scaling, and that requires a dedicated focus, which we confidently hand over to Netcompany.”
Following the ownership change, Copenhagen Airports will continue working with Netcompany on AIRHART and remain involved in the platform’s ongoing development, according to the companies.
