More movement in the world of Direct-Connect contracts for American Airlines, with arguably the highest prize unveiled so far by the airline in the shape of Priceline.
The move to switch to the controversial Direct-Connect system provided by American Airlines comes just a day after Vegas.com was announced as a partner by the airline.
Terms of the agreement between American Airlines and Priceline were not disclosed today, but the online travel agency says it expects to bring issuing tickets for the airline through Direct-Connect in the near future.
The move to connect with American Airlines in this fashion is in stark contrast to Priceline's agency rivals Orbitz and Expedia, both of which have fallen out with the airline in recent weeks over the Direct-Connect system.
Expedia removed American Airlines fares on January 1, while Orbitz found itself on the wrong end of its row with the airline and without fares in mid-December 2010.
But the latest development should perhaps not come a huge surprise to industry watchers and consumers alike - American Airlines has touted Priceline as an alternative to Expedia and Orbitz for a number of weeks, alongside Kayak.
Travelport - at the centre of the row with American Airlines - is Priceline's global distribution system of record through Worldspan, but has yet to react to the news.
However, it has previously said that it fears "massive" defections away from the standard connection model - a worry that appears to now be becoming a reality much quicker than some may have expected.
