European metasearch provider Momondo has joined the ranks of its competitors and launched its first smartphone application for flight search.
The Copenhagen-based company, bought recently by UK price comparison service Cheapflights, launches the app for Apple iPhone users first this week.
The free app works in a similar way to other metasearch apps such as Skyscanner, Hipmunk and Kayak, allowing users to search across the existing array of products from the main service and be redirected to the supplier's mobile website to complete the booking.
Some rail product options have been added to the service as well as filter tools to allow sorting by price, departure point, flight duration and number of stopovers.
Versions for Android and Blackberry devices are expected to follow in the future, a Momondo official says.
The launch of the Momondo app beats comes ahead of the long-awaited mobile service for the mothership. Cheapflights announced in January that it would be launching an iPhone application and was currently waiting for the thumbs-up from Apple.
Three months on and an official confirms the app is still in the system, awaiting approval.
