Travel app publisher Ulmon - which Tnooz called "Europe's largest mobile travel startup you've never heard of" - has raised financing in the small seven figure Euro range.
The investment was led by Global Founders Capital, the venture firm headed by Marc and Oliver Samwer.
Ulmon has also released some significant numbers from 2013: 6 million downloads on iOS and Android, making it the most downloaded mobile travel guide publisher of the year, according to AppAnnie Intelligence data.
The core product is CityMaps2Go, a mobile mapping and trip planning solution that allows travelers to create trips and use the plans for orientation and further in-destination information. This includes the proprietary offline rendering technology OpenStreetMap, a data aggregation framework for widely available web data, and thoughtful personalization of the in-app experience.
In announcing the investment, co-founder and COO Florian Kandler points out the inherent challenges and necessities of phenomenal growth:

After just three years of operations, we became the fastest growing mobile travel guide publisher. We aim to be the best travel partner for our customers every trip and we can see in user activity and retention data how well this customer-centric approach is paying off.
We will use this first outside investment of a small seven-digit Euro amount to make our unique value proposition available to an increasing number of travelers worldwide.
As far as reasons for closing the investment, Global Founders Capital partner Fabian Siegel points to the team's ability to execute:

We have been impressed by the traction the team developed over the past year, becoming a global leader for mobile travel guides with no outside investment. We are looking forward to supporting the team now as they accelerate their growth through our global network.
The ten-person Ulmon team remains based in Vienna.
