Dutch startup Undagrid has received investment from KLM and Schipol Airport via Mainport Innovation Fund, a partnership between the airline, airport, Rabobank and Delft University of Technology.
The unspecified investment in the startup, which specialises in the Internet of Things, will go towards international growth and new markets.
Undagrid wireless technology, which tracks items and relays location information to nearby devices, is already being used at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport for luggage trolleys and aircraft stairs.
The idea is to make processes more efficient through the shared information on the whereabouts of objects.
Currently the technology is being used to drive down costs in logistics but Undagrid says going forward there will also be applications for travellers.
MIF has already invested in a number of aviation startups including a baggage tracking company called FastTrack Company and an aviation security business called Eye on Air.
