The next few years are likely to to see the introduction of all kind of so-called smart devices beyond the existing mobile phone.
European tour operator TUI Group is getting in on the act with a trial at one of its flagship resort hotels in Turkey, where guests can don a wristband which has digitised a number of the functions of the usual stay.
Developed by hospitality technology provider Quadriga, TUIl's Smartband becomes the guest's room key, air conditioning control unit and payment system.
For example, an entire family can wear individual Smartbands and run their trip's expenses from a master account.
The pilot is taking place at the Blue Village Family Life resort.
So services such as drinks, entertainment and fitness facilities can be paid for with the flash of the wrist.
The Smartband is connected to the existing TUI My Holiday mobile application so families or individuals can monitor their spend during a stay.

The system is similar to the pioneering platform installed at the Ushuaia Beach Hotel in Ibiza, which gave its dance music-crazed guests a wristband for payments and the ability to check in on their social networks during gigs and post pictures and videos.
