Expedia is launching a new rewards program in 2011 after terminating its relationship with Citi ThankYou Rewards in December.
Under the existing program, consumers could earn ThankYou points when booking hotels, packages and cruises on Expedia.com.
However, under the new Expedia program to be launched in early 2011, consumers would also be able to earn rewards when booking flights on Expedia.com, as well, although details about the new program are sparse.
Meanwhile, Expedia says, starting Dec. 1 consumers no longer can pile up ThankYou Points for bookings on Expedia.com unless they make their reservations with a Citi Premier Pass/Expedia World MasterCard credit card. However, starting Dec. 1, those credit card bookings only earn two points per dollar spent versus the current three points per dollar.
ThankYou Points are redeemable at some 400 merchants. People with ThankYou member accounts will be able to retain their points even though Expedia is ending its relationship with Citi ThankYou Rewards.
Expedia says it will soon provide details about its new loyalty program, and is working on a plan where consumers would be able to combine ThankYou Points with the new Expedia rewards program.
