The newly available Travelocity App for iPad features Mobile Exclusive Deals which indeed beats hotel prices on the desktop version of Travelocity.
But, one reason that travel planning can be such a complex and arduous task is that it takes a lot of research to see if a deal is really a deal.
In iTunes, Travelocity states that "you can book flights, hotels and rental cars on the go, plus get daily mobile-exclusive deals that you won't find anywhere else."
But, sometimes Travelocity's mobile-only deals aren't necessarily so exclusive.
When you use the Travelocity app to search for a hotel in New York City for tonight, February 27, it shows a Mobile Exclusive Deal for the Bentley Hotel for $128.25 (total rate $150.66), and that indeed beats the hotel's base rate of $135 on Travelocity.com.
The Travelocity app's Mobile Exclusive Deal also beats the base rates for the property on Orbitz, Cheaptickets, Hotelclub and Booking.com, which all offered $135 rates.
But, the Bentley Hotel website offered the same deluxe room for a $121.50 base rate, beating Travelocity's "exclusive."
Still, Travelocity's launch of Mobile Exclusive Deals, which is available on other Travelocity apps, including its Android app, highlights how travel companies are increasingly targeting the mobile traveler.
On Travelocity's Android app, if you do a hotel search, it displays, or you can tap to see, three Mobile Exclusive Deals. You can access hotel descriptions, photos, reviews, get directions and optionally tap a Call to Book button.
The new and free Travelocity App for iPad gives users the ability to book flights, cars and hotels, including Top Secret Hotels, which displays star ratings and hotel pricing on discounted hotels before you book, but not the hotel name.
One nice feature of Travelocity's apps is that you can log in and then choose to pre-fill your personal details from an existing Travelocity account.
And, for mobile travel planners, that can save a lot of tapping.
