Another step in the development of Augmented Reality tools in travel - this time provided by a Colorado, US-based company known as Iryss.
The Iryss system, TagWhat, works on the same principle as a number of other AR projects, such as those from Wikitude, TripWolf or TripSay, which display travel content on a user's mobile in real-time, via the handset's camera.
In TagWhat's case the system is also including some of the pre-trip elements of a journey into the system.
The user creates a profile from the TagWhat website ahead of their trip, including information such as accommodation, activities, check-in times and other trip details.
Each element is associated with a position on a map, so when the user is on-site they can use the AR feature of the TagWhat system to locate the details.
The system also links to a calendar and contact book, allowing the user to preset certain details to be used at a later date.
Another interesting element of the system is that it can store information, such as files and presentations, which can be shared with other users.
The social media element includes the almost standard ability now to share notes and content with other members on the system.
If a fellow user finds a member's tags in a location they can download or browse the information direct to the handset.
The TagWhat system is available on the Apple iPhone and Android devices.
