Onyx CenterSource, a hotel commission payment and recovery service, acquired eCommission Solutions , which provides revenue recovery, data management and business intelligence to travel agencies and corporate travel managers.
Both companies are privately held, and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
ECS founder and chief executive officer Paul Hoffmann will stay on in a consulting role, helping customers with the transition from the ECS platform to Onyx's RecoverPro platform.
Mark Dubrow, Onyx chief executive officer, said the acquisition of ECS’ assets will expand Onyx’s global commission recovery client base and will provide ECS customers with access to an expanded hotel network and additional support services around the world.
“We are also exploring the ECS big data platform to understand how it may expand our business intelligence services and create new value in the future,” he said.
In recent years, ECS realized it had been amassing a gold mine of data through tracking hotel and car rental commissions for its travel agency clients.
It has endeavored to tie together all the systems it works with to extract data that not only makes sense to travel agency managers but is actionable as well.
ECS assembles the data from a variety of sources, including GDSs, payment consolidators and agency accounting systems.
Onyx was formed by the acquisition of Net Trans Services and Worldwide Payment Systems in 2014. Both were involved in the tracking, processing and reconciliation of hotel commissions.
Onyx itself, which was once part of Pegasus Solutions, historically was more hotel-centric, but its acquisitions have given it a broader view of the industry.
