Better news for GetYourGuide to end the week with as it secures what is claimed to be the first on-board booking service within in-flight entertainment systems.
The agreement with Spanish digital cabin services provider Immfly will put the online travel agency for destination experience's products into IFE devices on airlines, allowing search and booking "even when aircraft are out of range of internet connectivity" for passengers.
The system will include 60,000 bookable products from the GetYourGuide catalogue of products, including skip-the-line deals and other specialist tours.
GetYourGuide's service will be contained within a carrier's existing portfolio of services for passengers, such as entertainment, news, cabin services, destination information and games.
Immfly says the platform has already been deployed by a number of carriers and a others will be connected during the next three months.
Airlines will benefit from including the GetYourGuide booking tools by way of a revenue share, Immfly says.
The launch of the partnership comes at the end of a tough week for GetYourGuide, following confirmation that it would be laying off around 90 employees as part of a program to reset the business in the midst of ongoing uncertainty in the travel industry.
