Pangea, a platform for solo travelers and digital nomads, has acquired Overlap, a social app that allows these travelers to connect with friends on their trips. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2020, Pangea said the acquisition is an initial step in its plan to address fragmentation in travel technology.
“Fragmentation is major root cause as to WHY planning and organizing travel is so difficult, and we're committed to not only building innovative tools in whitespace areas to make it easier and more connected but also to consolidating the best founder lead apps into one cohesive platform, all underpinned by AI, so you don't have to juggle 20 different tools,” Pangea founder and CEO Matt Gray wrote on LinkedIn.
As of Monday, Overlap users can log in to Pangea, where they will see their friends, trips and pins have been “securely merged into the new combined platform,” Gray added.
Overlap founder Sharon Rosenberg is joining Pangea as head of design, and co-founders Nick Zaverdinos and Jason Hu are also remaining “involved in an advisory capacity” as part of the acquisition.
