Expedia Group has acquired artificial intelligence (AI) trip planning and booking app Layla for an undisclosed amount.
The online travel giant said the move accelerates its AI strategy by combining Layla’s planning and personalization capabilities with Expedia Group’s supply, scale and technology.
The company described Layla as having “one of the most innovative AI trip planning experiences.”
"Layla has built an exceptional AI-powered travel planning experience that aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of travel," said Shilpa Ranganathan, chief product officer of Expedia Group. "We know that our travelers desire personalized and complete experiences, and AI is making that possible in entirely new ways. By combining Layla's innovation with Expedia Group's trusted marketplace, world-class supply and technology platform, we can accelerate our ability to deliver the next generation of travel planning and booking.”
Saad Saeed, co-founder and CEO of Layla, said joining Expedia Group would give it the “scale, supply and resources” to bring its vision of making travel planning easier to more people.
The company was founded in 2023 and attracted €3 million in seed funding with backers including Lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman, as well as founders from Booking.com and Skyscanner.
The travel planning startup acquired Roam Around, an AI-powered itinerary creation platform in early 2024.
Expedia unveiled a ChatGPT app in November 2025. At the time, CEO Ariane Gorin said: “By bridging the gap between planning in ChatGPT conversations and booking on Expedia, we see enormous potential to create seamless traveler experiences.”
The app enabled users to learn about destinations, compare hotel and flight options with real-time pricing and see interactive maps from Expedia.
