More moves from TripAdvisor in the restaurant sector with confirmation that it has bought Portuguese booking site BestTables.
Terms of the deal are not disclosed.
The startup was created by local entrepreneurs Ricardo Sécio and Sergio Sequeira in 2011 in Lisbon and has since grown to a network of over 1,200 bookable restaurants across both Portuguese and Brazilian markets.
BestTables allows diners to choose and book a restaurant based on preferred location, availability, price, type of cuisine and special offers.
The integration of BestTables into the TripAdvisor family will be led by the management team at LaFourchette, the company bought in May 2014 to spearhead its interests in services within a destination alongside things to do.
TripAdvisor also bought Netherlands-based sister restaurant and booking services IENS and SeatMe in January this year.
An official says:

"Portugal and Brazil are important markets for us and the company will be a valuable addition as we continue to strengthen our restaurant offering."
Local media in Portugal reports BestTables original backer, Shilling Capital Partners, as saying the time was right to sell up and move on.
Partner Hugo Pereira says:

"We thought it was a good time to get out of the market, which was about to consolidate. It is starting to be a giant fight and we had no resources to tackle them."
Priceline made its own, significant foray into the restaurant sector in June last year with the $2.6 billion acquisition of OpenTable.
