Orbitz is making a renewed push to get travel agents to sign up for its Orbitz for Agents program.
In fact, the program, which launched in February, has a new as-yet-to-be detailed awards program in partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, where top agents would earn vacation packages.
That tidbit of news was contained in an Orbitz for Agents email to travel agents. The email promotes an upcoming webinar about the program.
Orbitz for Agents pays travel agents 10% commission on standalone hotel bookings and 4% on air-hotel-car vacation packages.
And, with all that's going on, let's hope that agents in the program will be able to book American Airlines on Orbitz beginning Dec. 1.
Meanwhile, in that dispute between Orbitz and American Airlines, Travelport -- which controls Orbitz Worldwide -- blasted American's direct-connect attempts and indicated it has taken "commercial and legal" actions against the airline.
Travelport, Orbitz and American declined to say what actions Travelport has taken.
