In the battle to appeal to tech-savvy travellers, London hotel Ecclestone Square is laying claim to being the most hi-tech property in the capital with a string of gadget-led features.
The property, part of the global luxury Design Hotels chain, is located in the upmarket area of Belgravia in London (close to Victoria Station in the West End) and has clearly spent a large amount of its fixtures and fittings budget on features beyond beds, sheets and fancy lampshades.
Perhaps the biggest play in the hotel's pre-launch buzz is its claim to be the first hotel in Europe to have an iPad2 in every room as standard so guests can control all the other gadgets and gizmos.
Tools on the device (which also come as part of an app for a guest's own mobile handset) include temperature, lights and curtain control, in-room dining orders, restaurant booking, spa reservations, housekeeping, as well as information about the hotel and the local area.
The ICE Touch software for the iPad was developed by Intelity.
The rooms also feature other gadgets and toys such as 46-inch 3D plasma TVs, Blu-Ray DVD players, docking stations for iPods and iPhones, VoIP phones and a HD TV screen in the bathroom connected to the main unit.
But perhaps the dizzying array of new features hasn't been so easy to get in place. According to HotelChatter, Ecclestone Square was first due to open in May this year, then delayed until early July, told Twitter July 25, and is now looking at an official opening on August 1.
The hotel isn't cheap either: rooms start an hefty £250 per night, although the property-wide wifi will be free - a charge in some London hotels which can add £20 a day onto a room bill.
Management have yet to return calls for more information about the delay.
