Travel brands across the globe are slicing and dicing data about their holiday travel trends (we're currently receiving up to three of these type press releases a day).
nSight, a travel data aggregator, has gone one step further and compiled a holiday travel trend based on over 80 million daily transactions across 5,000 travel websites globally.
According to the nSight, New York tops the list of most searched and most booked holiday destination (bookings between December 23, 2013 and January 2, 2014).
Among the top ten searched places globally, there are five US cities, and three from Europe/UK. Cancun (Mexico) and Dubai are also on the top 10 search list.
90% of the top searched destinations were the top booked destinations as well, except for Barcelona (ninth most searched) that was replaced by Rome.
Amidst the travel industry boom in Asia Pacific market, no APAC destination has managed to make to the top 10 searched/booked list. For those who are interested in APAC holiday travel trends, Wego released the most searched flight destinations in its APAC operating countries, and Skyscanner released the most searched flight destinations originating from Singapore.
When it comes to staying through the new year, 33% of travellers searched for checkin before Christmas and checkout after New Year. However, only 16% of the travellers are staying through the new year.
Cancun, the seventh most searched and sixth most booked city has the highest advance booking (for Christmas) window of 116 days.
Orlando and New York have the highest advance booking (for New Year) window of 105 days.
Interestingly, the highest booking window cities Cancun and Orlando have attracted the longest stay at six nights.
