Want to do a little whitewater rafting or engage in some off-roading this weekend? Then break out Goby's just-launched iPad app and you are probably only three or so taps away.
The free trip-planning app on the iPad parallels Goby's iPhone app, enabling users to search for several million unique things to do, Goby says.
Both apps are location-aware, cover the U.S., and come with an interactive map for each activity category.
The Goby iPhone app gets a 2.5-star customer rating on iTunes.
Goby co-founder and CEO Mark Watkins says the two apps provide a differentiated user experience, although the features are the same.
"Using the increased screen size of the iPad, we were able to enhance the search experience by combining the list and map views into one screen, rather than requiring a toggle as we do on the iPhone," Watkins says.
Goby's game plan is "to build out specific features for each app to take advantage of various ways people are using the device as we learn more," Watkins says.
Watkins, like others, believes the iPad will evolve into more of a research and planning device, while the iPhone "will be more of a mobile utility that's used in the moment."
And, Goby plans to begin crafting those interfaces for those device-specific scenarios "in the near future," he says.
Launched in October, Goby's mission is to cure the boredom blues and the company believes its iPhone and iPad apps will help in the relief effort.
