Wake-up call for a Monday morning in the world of airline technology with news that Datalex CEO Cormac Whelan is leaving the company after eight years at the helm.
A statement issued this morning says Whelan will step down as CEO and an executive director of the company with immediate effect, a process the company says was by "mutual and amicable agreement".
Moving in to the top chair quickly, at least temporarily, will be Aidan Brogan, currently senior vice president of sales at the Ireland-based company.
Whelan will work on a handover with Brogan until July 31 this year, the company adds following the sudden resignation.
The news will come as a shock to many as Whelan was seen as a safe pair of hands and was credited, not least by chairman Paschal Taggart in the statement, with moving the business to a product software company and spearheading the developments of its Travel Distribution Platform.
Whelan was a delegate at the annual SITA conference in Brussels last week.
Brogan is a Datalex veteran, joining the company in 1994 and leading both its product and marketing over the years. He was previously with Westinghouse in the Middle East, working in the airline and travel divisions.
